Social Media

I still remember the days when I joined the google plus. I was in the college and got a new phone. I was getting bored and I saw this preinstalled app on my phone. I tried to learn it but failed. But, as soon as I started visiting it more and more, I learned more about it and in few days, I was able to connect with other people as well. Unlike Facebook, where you can connect only with the people who live around you or the ones whom you know in your real life, here I can be friend with anyone and it gave me a chance to connect with people who were like-minded.

The story goes on and I made some really amazing friends there, not only all over India but all over the globe. I never thought I could befriend with someone from America or Europe but now I do have those friends who know me as much as the friends in real life. All this came to reality as we were like-minded.

I have met many people in this duration and noticed many things. People get in touch with you, start sharing their things and you too share your things and friendship goes stronger. No daily meetings, night outs or anything needed. Just a text and you're with them. This gives you more time to do your daily life chores as well as to be your friends as well. For introvert people, it is quite hard to talk to strange people and make new friends, but on social media, I have found that these are the people who express themselves in the kindest way.

Everything seems to go fine until one of us start sharing the same bond with other people too. The other person feels betrayed. Many argue that internet friendship is not real but I do not agree. I have so many "Internet friends" as I have mentioned earlier and that's the proof. Modern lifestyle and the hectic schedule don't allow us to have much social life in real life. It is when you can use your phone to stay connected with your friends. Many people feel down and depressed. They feel lonely and can't help themselves as they have issues with real life. For such people, social media is a real blessing. They can share their problems and more importantly, they can find people who would actually listen and might help them to deal with their issues.

Not every time the social media have positive impacts. Many a time, people get bullied for their behaviour on social sites. People accuse and harass them. But, it is a lot easier to deal with such crap there as you can block them. In some cases, people don't know how to deal with such situations and it makes their mental life worse. People start judging you from the things you post there without doing any efforts to know the whole matter. You receive more criticism than appreciation. You have to learn how to deal with it.

Social media has its own cons and pro. Nowadays, we rely more on social media for information and news. Not all the time the information we get on the social media is correct. It is hard to believe some sources of information. Sometimes, even the newspaper agencies believe whatever is getting attention on the social media platforms and that is when the case got worse. You should be aware of what is happening over the internet and what sources should be believed.

Making friends is indeed fun. Having someone in life who cares for you, who talk to you when no one does and who listen to you really great. The social media has two sides. You have to balance them. For fun, it is good but on the other side, it may ruin your part of life. Social media addiction is also one of the things to worry about. Well, it is okay as long as you look after yourself even on the social media.

P.S. May I request everyone that instead of making "April Fool" on 1st April, plant at least one tree and make "April Cool"! This small campaign of your's may help to make this earth "Cool". (From WhatsApp)
